The Abitibi Sprint Challenge kicks off the 54th Edition of the Tour de l’Abitibi Glencore

Val-d’Or, July 15, 2024 – The Tour de l’Abitibi Glencore started with considerable excitement as the Abitibi Sprint Challenge, presented by the Government of Canada, marked the official opening of the 54th edition of this esteemed cycling competition.

We also had the pleasure of introducing the participating teams. Teams from Canada, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Colombia, France, along with eight regional teams from Canada and two from the United States, will compete for various jerseys. A special mention goes to two regional teams from Abitibi who, for the first time in many years, will have the opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage.

The Abitibi Sprint Challenge, although not affecting the overall standings of the Tour, provided an impressive show. Mikael Guilbault, representing Team Canada, won this event with a remarkable performance. He was closely followed by Victor Manuel Mendoza Ruiz from Colombia, who secured second place, and Lee Cullen Darr from the American team Vantaggio Fitness & Nutrition, who completed the podium in third place.

This event captivated spectators and highlighted the potential and determination of this year’s cyclists. Tomorrow, the first official stage of the Tour de l’Abitibi Glencore, presented by Desjardins, will take place with a start from Rouyn-Noranda at 4:45 PM and an expected arrival in Val-d’Or at 7:25 PM.
