Val-d’Or, October 30, 2022 \u2013 <\/strong>The Tour de l’Abitibi was inducted into the organization\u2019s Hall of Fame at the Annual Cycling Canada Conference held on Saturday, October 29 in Ottawa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a huge and complete recognition of all the volunteers who have carried the torch since the beginning. It is a pride that this event has become the oldest cycling competition in North America, despite all the pitfalls encountered over the years.\u00a0 It started with nothing, we didn\u2019t know anything about cycling and we learned over time and it goes on\u00bb mentions L\u00e9andre Normand, founding member of the Tour de l’Abitibi.<\/p>\n

According to the president, M\u00e9lanie Rocher \u00abThe Tour de l’Abitibi represents hope for our young people, we are a breeding ground for young cyclists where we have the chance to see the growth of \u00abHugo Houles\u00bb.\u00a0 Young people watching the Tour and those taking part in the Tour see and live a dream. The Tour de l’Abitibi shapes cyclists, volunteers, it shapes regional vitality and pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cycling Canada<\/p>\n

Cycling Canada has been in place for 137 years and is a national sport organization that supports the development of cycling sports in Canada.\u00a0 Since 2015, the organization has welcomed athletes and organizations to its Hall of Fame to recognize their outstanding achievements and contributions to cycling sports.<\/p>\n

The Tour de l\u2019Abitibi<\/p>\n

Sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the Tour de l’Abitibi is the only competition in the UCI Junior Nations Cup circuit to be presented in America.\u00a0 In all, 150 cyclists from around 20 teams around the world are coming together in the hope of completing the 7 stages, for a total of nearly 700 kilometres in 7 days.\u00a0 In 2023, the Tour de l’Abitibi will present its 53rd edition in Amos.<\/p>\n
